Poetic vigour and vibrant life radiate from Farshad Farzankia’s large-scale paintings. To be presented in 2021, ARKEN’s major solo show featuring Farzankia will be the Iranian-Danish artist’s first museum exhibition. For the event, he will create all-new works and installations that draw on centuries of history and tradition while also taking a critical look at our own time.

From Persian poetry and film art to Andy Warhol and Bob Dylan

We are all made up of fragments: of our experiences and memory, fear and consumption, dreams and longings. Similarly, Farzankia’s paintings are full of signs and imagery that engage with various narratives, from the grand to the intimate. Narratives about self-image and identity, about freedom and movement, about fake news and philosophy. Each painting is like an open-ended scene filled with stylised faces and figures, birds and expressive layers of colour. Intuitive slivers without beginning and end, inviting us to enter new worlds full of images and language, culture and philosophy.
